5700 COVID-19 Patients Hospitalized in NYC Area

#COVID19FOAM
Most common comorbidities:

HTN = 56.6%
Obesity = 41.7%
Diabetes = 33.8%

Same as what we have seen in previous studies
Only 30.7% of patients were febrile at triage (This means most pts not febrile & another reason why screening protocols won't work

Co-infection with Another Respiratory Virus: 42/1996 (2.1%) --> This is lower than some previous studies...Maybe no longer winter months
Among pts discharged or dead (n = 2634)

ICU = 12.2%
Invasive mechanical ventilation = 12.2%
Renal replacement therapy = 3.2
Death = 21.0%
Mortality
Without Invasive Mechanical Ventilation = 271/2314 (11.7%)
With Invasive Mechanical Ventilation = 282/320 (88.1%)

This is an association not causation but consistent with previous studies --> Critical dz severity vs VILI
Home Medications:
Taking ACEI = 189/2411 (7.8%)
Taking ARB = 267/2411 (11.1%)

Mortality Rates with HTN PLUS:
NO ACEI/ARB = 26.7%
ACEI Alone = 32.7%
ARB Alone = 30.6%
Biggest Limitation of this study --> Only reported mortality rates for patients with definite outcomes (discharge or death), and a longer-term study may find different mortality rates at longer durations of time
