No one wants to say the simple truth: College campuses are the perfect breeding ground for COVID-19.
Therefore, America, we cannot bring your sons and daughters back to our campuses until we can keep them safe. Safe=a vaccine and wide-spread testing. 1/ https://twitter.com/AdamHSays/status/1254048602680410112
Part two of higher ed's convo with America: We do not know for sure when things will change. We are all working really hard and collaboratively to determine how we can restore normalcy. However, the "when" is out of our control. 2/
Part three: By the way, we are all scared. Too many of us are fragile and ill-equipped to weather a prolonged storm. It is in our best financial interest to return students to campus as soon as possible. That being said, we cannot behave selfishly. 3/
Part four: We will need your patience and we will need your understanding as we work to chart a new course. There is no book on how you operate colleges and universities during a global pandemic in the midst of the information age. 4/
Part five: Tradition is out of the window (and you know how we love our traditions). We must be nimble and we must be creative. There is no time for 18 month reviews and committees. To quote Gabriela Mistral: "his name is today."
