Let's chat about my recent experience with @CapitalOne and my father, who has been the ICU battling COVID-19 since late March... (thread)
I learned that he is late on a credit card payment because I have access to his email. I don't have access to his card five states away (and you cannot go see anyone in a hospital with COVID anyways)...
My father has been in the ICU since March 27th. He has been on a ventilator and is intubated, unable to speak. To say that he isn't capable of making a payment is, well, an understatement...
I called the number listed on the @CapitalOne website for personal card holders and had to wait ONE HOUR AND SIX MINUTES before talking with a human. No they do not offer the "enter your number and we'll call back" option...
An agent gets on, and I explain that I am calling about my father who is hospitalized with COVID, so he is unable to make a payment. The agent then asks HOW AM I GOING TO PAY on behalf of my father...
Haha. I am not calling to make payment on someone else's unsecured credit card debt, guys. That is why you get to charge 25%+ interest rates, you jerks. Thanks for the initial sympathy though...
Next I ask for a simple delay until June for him to pay his bill (his doctors think he is in ICU for at least another month). His other credit card companies were fine with this quick fix, including @synchrony ...
Not for the vultures @CapitalOne - I have to fax (are you serious?? FAX???) a power of attorney form to them, wait 5-7 business days for them to process the POA, so that I am authorized to ask for this huge favor on behalf of my father...
I faxed it this morning. I expect a prompt response via carrier pigeon...
At the top of the @CapitalOne website, is the bold proclamation, "We are here to help our customers impacted by the COVID-19 virus situation." What a load of bullsh*t -- this is absolutely pathetic corporate behavior. You should be ashamed at how hollow these words are!
