Ya& #39;ll kill me when you say you don& #39;t like Squall because he is whiny & what not. As someone who grew up with abandonment & trust issues & always pushed people away before they got too close to me & left me, I totally relate to the way Squall is & why he says & does what he does.
He& #39;s just trying to protect himself from getting hurt. Also he& #39;s 18 so he& #39;s still a shit nugget. It& #39;s hard to process things like that. As he & gang got to know each other, he opened up, even discussed feelings. That& #39;s a huge breakthrough for a person with issues of abandonment.
It isn& #39;t like he whines about everything. He isn& #39;t complaining about things that don& #39;t matter. When he whines, it& #39;s about how cruel the world is & how it doesn& #39;t care about you. When you grow up feeling like no one likes you & will leave you, the world really does feel that way.
Getting real personal here: a lot of people think I make up things in my life because I haven& #39;t spoken about them until the last 4 or 5 years. But that& #39;s bc my trust has been building up & I can feel like I can depend on others again.
When you feel like you can& #39;t depend on anyone but yourself, it turns you hard & cold, even as a teenager. Honestly, it& #39;s probably worst as a teenager bc everything seems so much bigger. It took years of time, healing, & love to get me to my point & I still revert sometimes.
So it makes sense to me an 18 year old with a fucked up childhood like Squall& #39;s, even one where he was greatly loved at one point, feels like it& #39;s just him against the world. My favorite thing about FF8 is the friendships bc those friendships taught Squall that he wasn& #39;t alone.
This thread really had no point. I just wanted to offer insight on why Squall can be a bit of a baby at times but he does it out of protection & as the game progresses he gets better. He found his family in his friends. That& #39;s an amazing theme. Stop being dicks to my boy idk lmao
