kim minju was born in gwangju, south korea, she originally wanted to attend art school and become a cartoonist, but was encouraged by her parents to study fashion design in seoul
minju graduated two fashion schools: the Samsung Art Design Institute in 2008 and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in 2013
while at school, she won the H&M Design Award in 2013, and designed a nine-piece, 1960s mod-inspired collection for the brand
she was also a semi-finalist in the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers in 2014
in 2015 she founded her own brand under the name of MINJUKIM, her fashion shows are known for starting with a design featuring a core, self-designed print that appears through out the rest of the collection
minju has designed for top kpop girl group Red Velvet, and two years ago, when she designed menswear for the first time, minju got the chance to create some looks for boy band bts
in 2020 she participated in Next in Fashion, through out the show the compited along side chinese designer, angel chen
minju won the finale designing a whole collection of 10 pieces all by herself inspired by mexican artists, frida kahlo, leaving with USD$250k and a parternship with net a porter
