Here is what I am trying to say. Paul thinks it's a very big deal that Jews and Gentiles are together. The reason that this is a big deal because they have every reason to be apart. Everyday that they remain one body is a testimony to the gospel's power to united.
When you downplay the reasons why they might be together, you are downplaying the ongoing relevance of what the gospel does. This was true then; it is true now.
The beauty of the gospel is not that it overcame ethnic differences in the past, but that it continues to do so everyday in society that threatens to tear the church apart. Not talking about race and lauding unity obscures the daily miracle of a gospel that brings us together
