How can we see what is happening in Kano, and also know how non-compliant Nigerians are, and feel that we can successfully conduct a hybrid lockdown in Lagos, without severe health implications? I want the lockdown to end, but I don't have a better suggestion.

The argument against the lockdown is that the economy will go to shambles, and that the poor people will die of hunger, and that there would be robberies, etc.

These are logical worries and really bad possibilities, but what is the alternative?

To mildly open the economy like Ghana is doing, and like Sweden and Japan tried.

This requires proper enforcement by incorruptible government officials and compliance by disciplined citizens. Unrealistic.

During the lockdown, we had 3 hours of traffic in Lekki.

The virus will spread like wildfire and the hungry and poor people we are trying to protect will be the first to die. How much social distancing can you observe in a tight BRT or danfo? Social distancing and mask protection is only practical to the middle class and above.

Some have said, open the economy for a while, and see how it goes. I saw Soludo's article as well. The question is if the infection rate then suddenly surges when we open the economy, which line do we have to keep the curve below? Which hospitals? How many beds? Ventilators?

Guess which demographic would be the worst hit? Guess who won't have access to any treatment? Yup, the same poor people.

The economy can be brought back to life by a healthy workforce, but what happens when it dies "because" of a sick population?

It is disgraceful that the government is NOT doing enough about the palliative measures and cushion effects that will help achieve the purpose of this lockdown. It is also insane that we are not testing very high numbers of people to help us have a better idea of issues.

It would have been to only way to sort this out, the ONLY other logical option was to have been proactive in January/February and prevent these things from happening, by closing the borders to foreigners and quarantining any incoming Nigerians.
