So, a couple weeks ago, I was due to give a talk at work about being a woman in the workplace, and was going to give some boring talk about “authenticity”.
But then I started @monaeltahawy’s latest book and was inspired by how unapologetic it is and thought maybe instead I could use her framework of “necessary sins” to make things a little more interesting.
So I came up with my personal necessary sins for being a woman at work: selfishness, owning space, nastiness, inflexibility, arrogance, self-promotion, and emotionality.
Yesterday, I got this message from a colleague who had come to my talk. She’s observing Ramadan with her family and wanted to be able to observe it without being interrupted or expected to work after regular business hours. She was inspired by my talk!
The great about feminism is that it’s contagious. When we stand up for ourselves, we inspire others. Thanks @monaeltahawy for continuing to be an inspiration to me!
