1. I honestly think we need to re-evaluate our current approach to Covid and extreme measures. The large New York data set allows us to study it much better.
Take home points:
The death rates are much, much lower than 2% of cases. Age dependent.

2. New York City had close to 20% of its population infected. The hospitals were able to manage but struggled. 8.4 million people in NYC represents 1.6 million infections and only 11,500 deaths.
6/6 The longterm damage of massive debt increases, bankruptcies of businesses and future service cuts from the debt need consideration. In medicine we joke about curing the disease but kill the patient. I hope this isn’t what we are doing.
5. The focus should be on isolating the elderly and those with comorbidities.
In NYC not a single teen or child died of covid. Ages 18-45 the death rate was 1/10,000. In Canada this demographic has more opiod deaths than this.

4. There may never be a vaccine or it may take over a year. Do we double our government debt by shutting everything down? What do we cut when it is time to service it? Child benefit? Old age security? Health, education? In Chretien era we cut most things.
