you like people who are “deep”

-a thread dedicated to whom it is applicable to
you blink once. then twice. you edge your finger towards the unmatch button. what did you waste the last few days of your life on?

you spend your idle hours looking for whomever holds that certain quality which says, “pick me. i’m the one”, and you believe them.
you believe until you spiral down the pit of your own disappointment. what was it that you wanted from the beginning? is it truly the depth a person holds?

“i want a person with substance”, you say.
just how does one measure a person’s depth? how does one even hope to comprehend the substance of a person’s being?

will you measure them against your personal standards of what is deep and substantial, and in doing so, disregard their own personal essence?
why do we allow our eyes to be blinded by the expectations we force upon others?

why do we set impossible standards and expect not to be disappointed?
why do we mistakenly force ourselves to believe that we understand other people?

why do we lie to ourselves and say we understand the things we know nothing about?
it is impossible to measure another’s depth. we are in no position to dictate a person’s substance according to our expectations and ideals.
