Dis/misinformation is like toxic mold behind a wall.
One can paint over it, but toxicity remains.

Our only cure is to intentionally nurture a media literate nation that values critical thinking.

2/2 We'll never eliminate bad actors who want to gain power thru division & manipulation.
We don't have legal consequences to restrain social media platforms that earn profits from leveraging emotion-based, sensational crap. (That's what scales up easiest.)
WE are the solution.

I think (maybe?) that scientists, academic folks & other wise leaders sometimes "stayed out of politics" because they viewed it as a separate, mostly not serious sector that could be left off to the side for politicians to play amongst themselves.
Now we see how harmful that is.
