Internal Medicine residency as a series of Bad Girls Club GIFs:

A thread
When it’s your first day on service and there’s an admission within the first five minutes of your shift
When you come up with an idea that’s evidence based medicine but your attending is old school and believes in “experience”
When your intern is getting into an argument and hasn’t learned to pick their battles
When you’re on ICU and unsure of what to do and a nurse gives a suggestion
What you want to write for a psych patient that’s fighting every nurse but decide that’s not the best thing so you get a consult instead
When you’re in the ED seeing your admission and see another patient that’s not yours going buckwild in the hallway
When someone tells you to run the code in the middle of the night
How patients view us when we see them before rounds
What you believe the 3mg melatonin will do on for the patient that’s been on Restoril for 15 years will do
Another day of rounding
When the day team starts questioning every decision you made about their crashing patient overnight
When you get called in on your day off to cover someone
When you’re the 16th person to show up to the rapid response
When the attending agrees with your plan
When the patient that has kept you up the past four nights from threatening everyone now wants something to help them sleep (jk I still help them)
When you hear free food during noon report
When you’ve been working the COVID unit and a resident relieves you of your duties
When a consultant starts snapping at me for calling them
When someone doesn’t expect you put in a central line in correctly the first time
And finally, after three years of residency (and maybe fellowship afterwards) and it’s your first day an attending making all the decisions and no one to check your work
(I put the wrong GIF earlier so a repost)
