People have asked many times “what good” I think talking about Tara Reade’s story does, and whether “at this point, it is just helping Trump.” First, I think it’s wrong to decide whether your party will take a sexual assault claim seriously based on its electoral consequences.

But I also strongly disagree that it is helping Trump. In fact I am doing whatever I can to PREVENT a second Trump term, which I think would be far worse than Democrats even understand.

The important thing to grasp is that the story doesn’t go away if Dems don’t confront it.

I am trying to WARN Democrats, before Biden has actually been nominated, that they face a potential huge problem in November. Why do you think Trump hasn’t mentioned this yet? He is smart enough to know he should wait to use it until Democrats can’t replace Biden.

If you think that Trump’s own history of assault on women (which by the way I have written an entire book chapter on) will make the issue irrelevant you are wrong. Trump is very effective at attacking his enemies for things they have done wrong that he has done worse.

What happens is: Trump notes bad things Dems have done and his criticism rings true because he is RIGHT. Then Dems, knowing he has a point, are left calling him a hypocrite. But they’ve completely lost the moral high ground. They can’t even claim to be pro women and anti assault.

The correct thing to happen right now, both morally and politically, is for Democrats to call on Joe Biden to step down. If the party applied consistent standards to itself and Republican this is what would be happening.

Actually Democrats who want to beat Trump should almost be relieved that there is now an excuse to get rid of Biden, since they’re all terrified inside knowing what a weak candidate he is and secretly they wish he wasn’t the nominee but they feel stuck with him.

My 85 year old British grandmother, who doesn’t follow US politics, took one look at Biden on TV and commented she thought he seemed rather weak and Trump would win. Everyone knows Biden is terrible. Now he has an assault scandal too.

Ignoring does not make it go away, which is why people who blame me and @kthalps for talking about it are deluding themselves. Only 2 choices: talk about now, or talk about when Trump spends 50 million dollars on ads with disturbing audio of Tara describing Biden attacking her.

I need you to look into the future and understand that running Biden means having to spend the general trying to discredit a woman or claim assault doesn’t matter much. I will not do this myself, sorry.

I am begging Democrats to run someone I can defend and fight for.
