When the furore in the Gulf over Hate speech occurred - there were classic attempts at diverting blame - notice mediamen saying "The PM had to speak up" & "The PM called for amity". That was skullduggery. The whole anti-Muslim campaign was driven from the very top in the regime
Immediately after the Tabligh news broke out, there was a concerted campaign to not only put the blame on the community, but BJP/RSS's propaganda machinery went on an overdrive spreading fake videos- at a never seen scale - to imply that Muslims were waging some "Corona Jihad"
Those who orchestrated this were not riff raff. PostCard,a fake news site run by Mahesh Hegde was at the forefront of the campaign. Who follows Hegde on Twitter? Modi himself. Almost the entire pro-Modi media (which is the bulk of Indian media) ran the vilification campaign
As anti-Muslim hatred - already normalised- reached epic proportions, and a sense of impunity gree, many Indians in the Gulf too saw no harm in participating in Muslim bashing, indulging in hate speech and abuse in the open.. That's when the blowback started. Everyone noticed
Interestingly, the Gulf episode too was triggered by BJP's IT Cell. Among those who ramped up hate were people followed, again, by Modi himself on twitter. The same folks are now trying to target those who reported hate speech. (e.g: Vikas Pandey- "proud to be followed by Modi")
As the ramifications became international, the OM had no option but to make a token statement, followed by embassies. To say that the PM "intervened" would be comical, if not tragic. The whole campaign, led by his minions, couldn't have happened without his blessings
So please spare us the PR. Everyone know the regime and its ecosystem, its minions - on social media and elsewhere -very well by now. Everyone knows who drives this. The PM needn't have "intervened" if he hadn't given his blessings to orchestrate this in the first place.
And this is what's happening now https://twitter.com/kabirSi79554826/status/1254032420724043776?s=19
So I won't be surprised if they ask the IT Cell minions at the forefront of escalating the fiasco, to start distancing themselves from the top brass. That too, is likely part of the strategy to shield the top bosses from bad press abroad
