Over the past week, I've been seeing a lot of folks consider or downright decide to leave academia after all of this...and basically across the board, they were all marginalised academics.

It's almost like...this pandemic is deepening the cracks of this so-called meritocracy?

Almost like...academia was made for a certain group of people...who are also the folks who will be weathering this pandemic with much more ease, giving themselves the time to further pad out their portfolios and making themselves look more desirable to a job market in shambles?

Almost like...academia is purposely made to look like meritocracy that values diversity, but is built down to its foundations to only support and value those of a certain subset of folks...?

Almost like...academia has a built in system to continuously avoid the integration of oppressed and otherwise marginalised people into the academy, allowing for one particular group of privileged folks to maintain power while providing crumbs of false promises to others?
