Jude Bellingham player analysis: I’ll split this into 4 aspects (physical, psychological, tactical & technical) to make it more organised
PHYSICAL: 6ft at 16 & isn’t thin either. He’s quick, fairly strong & also agile so he’s adapted very well to the championship despite some players & even teammates being double his age. He’s only going to improve physically too. He just takes the kicks and gets on with it.
PSYCHOLOGICAL: This is an underrated aspect of a player because it’s a direct window into what they’re like. He’s captained England U16s + U17s, winning the Syrenka Cup (got POTT too). A lot of people have praised his maturity & leadership skills as well as his work ethic.
TACTICAL: He’s played on both wings, at 10 & as an 8 for Birmingham in a pivot but never as a 6. He’d be wasted as a ball winner & his final ball/distance passing isn’t quite there yet to be a permanent DLP. BCFC’s system reduces the responsibilities he has in build up
Which lets him do what he does best (discussed in technical). On the wing he’s tasked with coming narrow whilst in a 442 he drives forward without the ball. He’s very alert in both boxes so he can do a bit of everything in all honesty. Think of a taller Wijnaldum type player.
If he joined us I’d say use him in cup/Europa games + bottom 6 off the bench then if he plays for the 23s let him sit & be more ball-focused. Even though Birmingham helps him be free he’ll need to be ball-centric eventually or he’ll become Alli. He’ll be fine in a 3 or pivot.
TECHNICAL: Dribbling is by far his best asset. He averages 1.5 dribbles per90 which is good considering he doesn’t always start/finish games aged 16. It’s simple stuff like this which he has on lock so young that’ll help him at higher levels
Then stuff like this too. Whole sequence sums him up too right up to the pass, capable of pure brilliance but still needs to work to make it perfect.
Defensively he’s good too. Reacts quickly to loose balls, uses his head if needed & will press opponents into mistakes. He has 6.1 recoveries per90 this year which is freakish numbers regardless of age. He’s not scared at all
Going forward, late runs into the box is where his attacking game impresses. Playing on the wing helps him do this a lot but he’s capable of doing it from central areas too. At his peak he’ll probably manage 10+ goals a season easily. He’s also a clean & confident ball striker.
There’s a lot of layers to his passing, he take set pieces, attempt crosses & plays it one touch amongst others. He keeps it simple too but if he’s actively testing his range then his execution will only improve. 75% pass accuracy isn’t amazing but he’s eager to add variation.
There’s no real weakness to his game but what’ll stop him growing is either misuse or overuse. His bust potential is honestly minimal because he’s comfortable at a level where even grown men fail. He’d make a difference at a fair amount of PL clubs near the bottom too
He’s a very exciting player & it’s surprising no PL clubs ever tried to get him earlier. I don’t think he’ll join Dortmund because his younger brother is also at Birmingham (seen he’s been rated higher internally too) so I’d doubt his family would spread 2 young boys like that.
