Here’s some thoughts on #writing with a view of submitting to #literaryagents for this period:
)think about the feelings we are experiencing now - fear, uncertainty, loss, lack of control, frustration and ask if your story is relevant to any of this?
)feelings also of familial bonds, routines, conducting friendships and love affairs, our unique relationship with time- how relevant is your story to these issues?
)immerse your reader in your world, with so much time on our hands, we seem to have no time for rambling
)don’t think about stories we might want to read now, think of what we will want to read after it is over?
)with a universal experience, steer clear of obvious. Avoid stories of warring couples stuck together in lockdown who find love; tell us unlikely stories of love thwarted?
)we look for joy on the page, joy in the writing, confidence of the storyteller, immersive experiences and learning something new about our lives, our times and our history.
