it started when the portuguese armed forces movement started a group against the regiment and quickly had civil back up. This revolution led to the fall of the "New State" ended the portuguese colonial war and started a period of freedom of speech and democracy in portugal
this name comes from the fact that almost no shots were fired and red carnations were given to the troops, therefore the red carnation is a symbol of peace and freedom for Portugal
