Following Trump’s disinfectant/UV light comments, I’m seeing four main reaction strategies in Facebook groups:

1) Deny - he never said it; 2) Reframe - refer to legitimate medical procedures; 3) Dismiss - label the “left” as hyperbolic; 4) Trolling - Trump was baiting the press.
1) Deny

Websites such as Breitbart, Daily Wire and AllSides have published fact checks that say Trump didn’t make these comments.

These quickly and efficiently stop the narrative and are popular across groups.

Breitbart have now changed their piece to be labelled as opinion.
2) Reframe

This strategy finds therapies or treatments that use light or internal antiseptics and claim that is what Trump meant.

The idea behind this strategy is to say that the science behind Trump’s remarks is real while simultaneously shaming people who didn’t understand.
3) Dismiss

This strategy cries “fake news” and dismisses the people and organisations reacting to this as “leftists” or the “MSM”. This has been a very popular approach for years, online and offline.

By dismissing the message carriers you dismiss the message itself.
4) Trolling.

These posts claim Trump was purposely baiting the press into overreacting to the comments.

For more on this, see this excellent thread on trolling: https://twitter.com/drclaireh/status/1253641961392820226
These strategies are not mutually exclusive, here’s a few posts that combine all of them.

The first example below combines 1 and 2 by denying the comments and attacking MSNBC. The second combines 2 and 3, with the third doing the same.
