Stranded Brits: a number of you are asking about prioritisation of vulnerable passengers, and why many who are vulnerable are still waiting. I wanted to try to explain. 1/6
/6 Several 1000s registered for flights. In certain areas in particular, a high proportion are vulnerable. We continually go through the information you have provided to identify and prioritise those who are most vulnerable and get as many as possible onto each flight.
/6 There are a few reasons why it’s not possible to fill flights entirely with vulnerable passengers. They may be elderly, infirm, or suffering from medical conditions, and will be accompanied by one or more people looking after them (usually family members).
/6 There needs to be sufficient provision of staff and equipment (eg wheelchairs) at airports and on planes for those that need assistance with checking in, boarding and de-boarding the plane.
/6 And ground transport movements are complex - in assigning passengers to flights we also need to take into account locations, routes, driver and car availability, and permissions to travel.
/6 Please be reassured that helping the most vulnerable home is our priority. We are doing all we can to get you back as quickly and as safely as possible.
