My #Ramadan   Diary.
Day 2: 25th April 2020

Last night, while warming up black lentils (my favourite) for dinner I said to myself that I must remember not to taste it as I was still fasting at that point. But what if I had forgotten and tasted it? The answer is nothing. 1/5
If you forget you’re fasting and eat or drink something, it will not effect your fast. Once my uncle was visiting us during Ramadan. He asked me for a glass of water. I went to my father and asked him what should I do as I knew Uncle was fasting. He replied that I should 2/5
give him water and not say anything. If we know someone is fasting and has forgotten and is about to eat/drink something we are not supposed to stop them.

Now, a bit about people who are allowed not to fast. People who are ill, people who are well but may become ill if they 3/5
fast, menstruating or pregnant women nursing mothers, young children, elderly, travellers are all exempt from fasting (some of these will have to fast when they are well/able to, like pregnant women). If a woman is fasting and fears abuse by her husband if the food isn’t 4/5
cooked to his taste, then she is allowed to taste it without it affecting her fast.

These exemptions are there because it’s not starvation which Allah wants from us. It’s what fasting teaches us which is important. I’ll write about that tomorrow. 5/5
