In said story, Xiang Yu (Leader of Chu Army) and his 20,000 soldiers try to avenge his uncle by attacking the Qin army of 200,000 soldiers. Once the Chu army crossed the waters, Xiang Yu ordered his soldiers to sink all the ships and break all cooking wares/equipment...
...as well as burn down all the houses nearby. He did it to remind the soldiers that there's only one way to go, and it's not the way back. The army eventually won despite being a much lesser of a force.
Just thought it’d be cool to bring this up. I love how Oda intertwines real life history and characters into his story.
