I'm watching Leo McCarey's "Going My Way," a movie whose praises @tonywendice1954 sang the other day. It's not generally recognized at its proper worth, partly because of the religious subject matter and partly because McCarey himself is underappreciated.
It is, in fact, one of THE great studio-system films, and Bing Crosby's performance leaves no doubt that he was a natural actor of the first rank—so good that he could effortlessly hold his own against Barry Fitzgerald. And yes, tears will be shed, but that's O.K. by me.
