should I do a thread of upcoming f/f YA books because the future is bright for the queer girls
In November, as a special birthday present to me specifically, is RUINSONG by Julia Ember, a fantasy featuring magic that is sung and a powerful mage who reunites with her childhood friend and joins the rebellion. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52751122-ruinsong
If the rivals-to-lovers vibe is your jam, there’s also YOU SHOULD SEE ME IN A CROWN by Leah Johnson, featuring Liz, who wants to be prom queen to use the scholarship and go to her dream school. But the new girl who captivates her is running too. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50160619-you-should-see-me-in-a-crown
One of the books I’m most anxious to get my hands on is THE DARK TIDE by Alicia Jasinska, which features a Witch Queen who requires a boy as her sacrifice to keep the island from sinking. Until Lina volunteers to go and realizes the queen isn’t all bad. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52411049-the-dark-tide
Do you need MORE rivals to lovers romcoms? Then I THINK I LOVE YOU by Auriane Desombre might be up your alley! Coming out in September as a paperback original, Emma and Sophie are competing for a first prize trip to a film festival in LA. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49291330-i-think-i-love-you
I know I’m missing some, but let’s move on to 2021 releases.
MALICE by Heather Walter is technically adult I think, but it’s a f/f Sleeping Beauty between the evil sorceress and the last surviving heir whose curse can be lifted by true love’s kiss SO https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51530580-malice
Another one that’s technically adult is ONE LAST STOP by Casey McQuiston but y’all kept calling RW&RB YA so whatever. This one’s a queer, NYC-set retelling of Kate & Leopold and I think set in the 80s or 90s? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49882806-one-last-stop
Some honorable mentions:
THE MERMAID, THE WITCH, AND THE SEA by Maggie Tokuda-Hall: one of the characters has a complex relationship with gender, so I don’t wanna call it f/f but.
GHOST WOOD SONG by Erica Waters: Bi-MC in a love triangle with a guy and a girl so ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
TELL NO TALES by Sam Maggs and Kendra Wells and BURN OUR BODIES DOWN by Rory Power are probably lead by queer girls, but I don’t know for sure that they’re f/f
This also doesn’t include sequels like STORM THE EARTH, THIS COVEN WON’T BREAK, CITY OF SPELLS, and, GIRLS OF FATE AND FURY
I’m sure I’m missing books - my goodreads isn’t fully up to date and I don’t have every f/f book on there - but you can always check @LGBTQReads for more!
