🌙✨ALL ABOUT THE HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN: A THREAD✨🌙
What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. During this month, Muslims wont eat or drink or have any sexual relations between dawn and sunset. This is called fasting. Fasting is considered an act of deeply personal worship in which Muslims closeness to god
Why is it celebrated?

Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are the guidelines for how Muslims live. It is also to appreciate our blessings and privileges for what they are. Eating and drinking are guaranteed to us but not to all so we fast to recognize that.
Who fasts?

Every Muslim who is able to without harming themselves. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and those who are ill, or travelling, don't have to fast. (If you're a woman and you get your period you don't have to fast either but you have to make up the days u miss)
Ok cool, we fast.. what else?!

During Ramadan Muslims try their best to better themselves, making positive changes in their life and attempting to carry them through the rest of the year. We also make incredible donations during this month for people in need, the mosque -
usually leads massive prayers called "Taraweeh" where we meet up with loved ones and pray together. Our good deeds are doubled during Ramadan in the eyes of God so people try to be the best version of themselves.
What happens after Ramadan?

EID !!! Eid is the celebration right after Ramadan where we dress up really nicely and eat a lot of FOOOD. Depending on the culture different families have traditions.
SOME TIPS FOR NON-MUSLIMS

- If you have a Muslim friend or know someone who is Muslim give them a word of support and encouragement it can be a hard time for ppl who are smokers or rely on certain things like coffee in their day-to-day lives
- Due to the coronavirus, we can't go to our big prayers or even see our families, this can be a time of loneliness for people who usually see their families. Wish them well and maybe offer to facetime them :)
- Ask questions if you have them! Don't feel like you are offending us many Muslims would love to share what they're doing with you. We even joke quite often about how people always ask us "nOt EvEn WaTEr" ( yes, not even water lmao)
Can I fast too?

YES!! Anyone can fast, I've had friends who chose to fast with me to see what it's like. It's truly an enlightening experience and it won't hurt to try.
