"choose beauty and youth over genius and art" is an interesting way to describe Christine Daaé choosing to marry her childhood sweetheart instead of the crazy serial killer who kidnapped her a couple times
My feelings towards Love Never Dies typify my relationship with many Andrew Llyod Weber musicals:

It's bad, but I love it.
"Why doesn't it surprise me that I get the blame here?"

A lot of Raoul's lines sound like he's commenting on the quality of the script.
DRAMATIC PHANTOM ENTRANCE
Christine, upon seeing the crazy serial killer who kidnapped her a couple times, slept with her once, then ditched her: how dare you!!!

The Phantom: but i'm like...really sad?
(pizza roll gif)
Christine to her son, after like ten minutes of telling the Phantom off in song: Come and meet...a friend of mine.
The Phantom: Sing for me or I'll kill your son.

Ah yes,,,,"Love" never dies!!!
"I'm still amazed."
"I'm so confused."
"I'm feeling dazed."
"I'm feeling used."

again, it sounds like the characters are commenting on the script here
The US tour version of Beauty Underneath is the best version, sorry not sorry.
He's just ten years old!!! TEN!!! YEARS!!! OLD!!!
On a scale from the Phantom to Arthur Dimmesdale, how much contrition do you actually feel for abandoning your illegitimate child?
Like many of the songs in this show, "Why Does She Love Me?" is actually a good musical number, it just makes no sense for this character, in this plot, which also makes no sense for this character.
@bellepocrypha Scarlet Letter AU in which Dimmesdale challenges Chillingworth to a bet to see who Hester loves more, based on whether she will sing for him or not. In the end they are all exiled from the Massachusetts Colony because gambling and singing are illegal.
And then they move to New Amsterdam...and open a freak show amusement park... 🧐
