The opening credits set the tone for the entire movie — what looks like dripping blood turns out to be raspberry sauce on “rare-roasted partridge breast.” You think you’re seeing one movie, but suddenly, it’s something else.

The idle chatter over dinner sets up one of the central tensions in the film — a pervasive, almost debilitating face blindness. Maybe it’s the self-absorption, or the tremendous quantities of cocaine, but none of them can tell each other apart.
