All right new NM state-wide #COVD19 numbers, and right out of the gate they're all screwed up.

@NMDOH, this is unacceptable. I don't know where the problem lies, but it stops at the top, so Madame Secretary, get your agency in hand.
Yesterday's official total was 2,379 cases overall. [That's about 3 cases short just based on @NMDOH's own numbers from recent days, but whatever.]. They say the total for today is 2,521 confirmed cases overall.
2521-2379 = 142.

142 new cases confirmed today.

So why does the announcement on @NMDOH's press room begin with an overall total of 153?

Welp, because COUNTY REPORTS add up to 153.
Y'all understand now why I'm taking the county numbers rather than the announced state numbers as the accurate ones?

This is still utterly inexcuseable. And given that @NMDOH spent more than a month with an inaccurate definition of #COVID19 on its home page? I wonder.
Anyway, 2,379 + 153 = 2,532. Given that the agency mysteriously disappeared at least 3 other cases earlier this week?

My best guess is that we're a lot closer to 2,535 than to 2,521.
County breakdown next; all caveats apply. We're using their running totals, not the ridiculous @NMDOH map that skipped a day and then left something like 15 cases off BernCo's total alone.

And I will have some words at the end of this, for the state, and for the media.
Oh, and before I forget: They're reporting 6 new deaths overall, for a total of 84 deaths overall. 2 BernCo; 1 McKinley; 3 San Juan. Again, heavy on NDN Country areas.
Bernalillo: Y'day should've been 636 (they omitted 5 cases, @ 631). Via their own (636) numbers: 25 new cases; 661 total cases (or 656); 2 new deaths; 38 total deaths.

Catron: 0 new cases; holding at 1 case total.

Chaves: 0 new cases; holding at 22 cases and 1 death total.
Cibola: 0 new cases; 38 total cases; holding at 2 deaths total. [I have a hard time believing there are 0 new Cibola cases for days.]

Colfax: 0 new cases; holding at 5 cases total.

Curry: 0 new cases; holding at 10 cases total.
DeBaca: 0 new cases; 0 total cases.

Doña Ana: 6 new cases; 95 total cases; holding at 1 death.

Eddy: 0 new cases; holding at 11 total cases and 1 death.
Grant: 0 new cases; holding at 14 total cases.

Guadalupe: 4 new cases; 7 total cases.

Harding: 0 new cases; 1 total case.

Hidalgo: 0 new cases; 0 total cases.
Lea: 2 new cases; 10 total cases.

Lincoln: 0 new cases; holding at 2 cases total.

Los Alamos: 0 new cases; holding at 6 cases total.

Luna: 0 new cases; holding at 3 cases total.
McKinley: 67 new cases; 631 total cases; 1 new death, for a total of 9 deaths. SIXTY-SEVEN NEW CASES IN ONE DAY. But "a couple of spots."

Mora: 0 new cases; 0 total cases.

Otero: 1 new cases; 6 total cases.
Quay: 0 new cases; holding at 4 cases and 1 death total.

Rio Arriba: 1 new cases; 12 total cases.

Roosevelt: 0 new cases; holding at 4 total cases.
San Juan: 31 new cases; 421 total cases; 3 new deaths for a total of 27 deaths. THIRTY-ONE, but "leveling off."

San Miguel: 0 new cases; holding at 2 cases total.

Sandoval: 12 new cases; 367 total cases; a total of 8 deaths overall.
Santa Fe: 0 new cases; 96 total cases.

Sierra: 0 new cases; 0 total cases.

Socorro: 1 new cases; 39 total cases; holding at 1 death.
Taos: 0 new cases; 17 total cases.

Torrance: 0 new cases; holding at 13 total cases.

Union: 0 new cases; 0 total cases.

Valencia: 3 new cases; if 38 total was accurate yesterday, that means 41 total as of today.
Now.

@ABQJournal and @nytimes?

Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves. You are spreading dangerous lies about our state in a time of pandemic. You are, in full racist form, also erasing our Indigenous peoples.
@ABQJournal's white male "bureau chief" tweets three days ago that the state is "leveling off" except for "a couple of spots in the northwest corner."

Today, they ran a headline quoting LANL models that was utterly irresponsible, asserting we'd already reached "peak."
ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING ME?

45.33% - ALMOST HALF OF ALL CASES IN NM - ARE INDIGENOUS! Forty-five point three percent.

LOOK BELOW 👇🏽👇🏽
BernCo has a significant Native pop, and 25 new cases today alone.

San Juan, which is in large part Dinetah? 31 new cases today alone.

McKinley, which is mostly Navajo and Zuni? SIXTY-SEVEN NEW CASES TODAY ALONE. 67! And growing by the day.
This is NOT the face of a state that is "leveling off," "only a couple of spots," "already peaked," or "averted a steep death toll."

This is a state with the worst yet to come, and pols and media don't give a shit BECAUSE IT'S NATIVE PEOPLE WHO ARE THE FACE OF IT.
Imagine, for one FUCKING moment, what the pols' and media's responses would be if the totals remained the same but that 45.33% of all #COVID19 cases in New Mexico were white people?

The sky would be falling. It would be a catastrophe of epic proportions.
There would be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, accompanied by throwing unholy amounts of money at it, a full lockdown everywhere, and none of this nonsense about "only a couple of spots."

Those white folks here? Are ALL on INDIGENOUS LANDS. STOLEN LANDS.
And we have, IIRC, the second highest Indigenous population of any state (certainly in per capita terms). and we can't even get any coverage for Zia, which two or three weeks had an infection rate of 1/20th of its total population.
The ONLY reason the Navajo Nation is getting covered, deep in the bodies of these bullshit puff pieces, is because the numbers are SO bad they cannot be avoided (and because of the Hillerman-esque white savior tropes that plague this state).
DO BETTER.

ALL OF YOU.

STAY AWAY FROM TRIBAL LANDS.

#MASKUPGLOVEUPANDSTAYTHEFUCKATHOME.

I'm so disgusted by this colonial bullshit.
Oh, and BTW, @nytimes: Your piece says that 44% of cases are Navajo Nation. That is absolutely wrong.

There are 22 tribal nations in this state, and the Navajo Nation spans three states. That 44% (now 45.33%)? Includes Indigenous peoples from all over the state.

DO BETTER.
