19 YO to 17 TO: “I want to get everyone in this house to the point where they can make a @blueapron and YOU are the weak link.” (Updates to come.)
Explaining the difference between “knick-knacks” and ingredients.
19 YO to 17 YO: “YOU are going to make this and it may take forever but THIS IS HAPPENING.”
19 YO: “Do you know how garlic works?”
“This is a clove and this is a head,” 19 YO says, “I know it’s complicated.”
Stepdad interference explaining how to pre-heat the oven was not appreciated!!
Chopping has commenced! We are gonna quietly watch TV now and see how this goes.
We are gonna watch #MrsAmerica and just let this happen 10 feet away
But here’s the scene: A wizened older brother teaching his apprentice the way of the meal kit
17 YO has no idea where we keep the olive oil, which as everyone who cooks or makes @blueapron knows, is essential to the process (p.s. it’s right in front of him on the counter by the stove)
I’m gonna give them some time and update you later, in no small part because #MrsAmerica is perfect and way more interesting than my 17 YO learning how garlic works. To be continued....
19 YO getting cocky enough to leave 17 YO unsupervised (this may be a huge mistake but we will see)
19 YO: “Want me to set the table?” 17 YO: “You’re making the assumption we’ll actually be finishing this today.”
19 YO shows how if you offset the pan lid things won’t overflow/burn. They literally have three kitchen timers and one phone timer going on. I have no idea why. ( #MrsAmerica is really amazing BTW)
There’s a whole conversation going on about plating and rice that I can’t properly capture so I’ll just let you fill in the blanks on that.
“So what are you next steps?” 19 YO asks. “I think they involve zucchini?” 17 YO answers. I don’t even care anymore. I’m just super hungry but also loving #MrsAmerica so much.
Table-setting is ON
Meanwhile, the performances in this show are 🔥🔥🔥
But for real a boy’s place is in the kitchen
Prologue: This is a very good dinner and I’m proud of everyone involved
