Caustic injury often occurs when pH <2 or >12. Isopropyl alcohol pH ~8 and bleach around ~11.
However, if suspected:
Step 1: Obtain chest or abdominal x-ray, NPO, no NGT
Step 2: EGD 12-48 hours
Step 3: Endoscopic surveillance suggested 15-20 yrs after injury, q2-3 years
