NEW: I've been leaked #covid19 death figures for Durham County Council for the 25 days to April 20th.

Nearly 50% of those deaths were in care homes.

72 hospital
67 care home
6 at home

If replicated across the country, it suggests our true death toll could be yet higher.
Confirms work @FT colleagues have been doing

And puts Britain pretty much bang into line with other European countries where on average between 40%-50% of deaths have been in residential care.

Department of Health didn’t comment tonight.

@leicesterliz told me: “This awful news from Durham will be deeply upsetting for elderly and disabled people and their families.

“We have not yet reached the peak of the crisis in social care...”
...”Continuing shortages of PPE for care workers and lack of a proper plan for testing residents and staff mean there is still much more the Govt should be doing to grip this issue and tackle the terrible toll this virus is having on some of the most vulnerable people in society”
