It's important when critiquing trans medicine/activism that we separate these criticisms from attacks on ALL trans individuals. The industrialization and politicization of their identities negatively affects them too. The loudest voices are not accurately representative.
Both trans and GC spaces often act as echo chambers where it is seen as traitorous to deviate from a strict set of beliefs that the loud majority holds. This is my daily reminder to think for yourself, and have individual conversations. Make breakthroughs through connection.
This is true of many internet spaces, which is why I strongly recommend grounding yourself and your ideas through real conversation that isn't devoid of important social cues like facial expressions and body language, if possible. Even via zoom!
Talking with people who disagree with you, actually engaging in dialogue, and learning about outside perspectives is the best way to develop empathy while also developing a more formed sense of self.
Obviously, this requires both parties to be open-minded and willing to learn, which can be difficult to arrange. Don't give up! Keep looking. You won't regret it.
