Belgium is outlining its 'deconfinement' strategy now.
"We had made seven weeks of sacrifices," Belgian prime minister Sophie Wilmès said. "It is time to look to the future."
More details to follow.
"We cannot make guarantees," says Wilmès, saying the deconfinement is "an operation never before seen in our country". "This virus still has lots of surprises in store for us."
Wilmès said the easing of measures will be "progressive" - in steps - "evolutive" - some measures will have to be adapted depending on the virus's spread - and "not definitive". "We can never exclude the possibility of taking a step back."
Belgium "strongly encourages" wearing masks in busy public places where social distancing cannot be guaranteed. Masks will be compulsory on public transport from 4 May for everyone aged 12 and over.
Every citizen will receive at least one free cloth mask and two filters. Federal, regional and municipal bodies will combine their efforts. Surgical masks must only be used by people in frontline jobs.
Video tutorials will explain how to safely wear a mask. Hands must be washed before applying a mask and the masks should not be touched while worn. They should be washed at a high temperature after each use.
Phase 1a - from 4 May
People should stay at home, as now. Outdoor sport possible with 2 people outside your family. Remote working remains the norm and schools remain closed. Firms providing business-to-business services, without public contact, can reopen.
Phase 1b - from 11 May (subject to how virus evolves in coming weeks): All shops will be allowed to reopen.
Phase 2 - from 18 May
Museums would be allowed to reopen. Private gatherings with friends, at home, would be allowed. Sporting activities could be extended to more than two people. Second home visits could be allowed again.
Nursery schools remain closed until at least the end of May. Decision to be taken later about June.
Phase 3 - at the earliest 8 June
Authorities will study a potential reopening of restaurants and cafes.
Belgium will increase testing capacity to at least 25,000 per day by 4 May.
Wilmès: "What is is sure is that things will not return to normal in the short or medium term."
