There has been an instant spike in ER visits over the misuse of disinfectants. This is extremely harmful and sad. I am reminded of a delusional prisoner-patient who stated about his murder: “Trump Rule says I can do what I want.” A president’s words have consequences.

This is only anecdotal from colleagues. No one has yet done an official study, but do we need to? It is a most certain outcome; the only question is to what extent and how many. The prisoner-patient is a personal case, of which I cannot say more because of confidentiality.

In medical reasoning, there are several steps: firsthand cases (“anecdotes”), observation of trends, hypothesis formation based on existing knowledge, and study/research (evidence).

Medicine is not so much a one-step process as in journalism: source -> reporting

But each step is considered part of the scientific process: it allows for the incorporation of accumulated knowledge, integration of complexity, and standardizing clinical observations....

... which make for an elegant science that suits the complexity of human beings. Method should match the object of observation, and so I was not being imprecise with you but sharing my thought process as information was coming in.

Nevertheless, continue to demand evidence! From experts, continue to ask about their methods! You should never give over blind faith to experts but infer, based on their track record and pattern of reliability.
