[Thread] Ok, as it's Friday night - I can't be the only one who's yearning for #Mountains and wild spaces at the moment, and planning some epic hikes for when #lockdown ends! To whet the appetite until then, 'Like' this tweet, and I'll share a pic of a mountain I've climbed.
To get us underway, here's Pumlumon, approached from Cwm Gwerin, miles from the nearest road. One of my all-time favourite mountains, from which flows rivers that link the town of my birth and the city of my life. The rock outcrop here is an anticlinal fold called Craig y March.
Phew, we've got at least 1 like! Here's Foel Fras (in cloud) in the Carneddau, with Llyn Dulyn in the foreground. At 942m high, this is the start/end of #Welsh3000 attempts. I squeezed this walk in on the way home from a @WelshLGA event in Flintshire; definitely worth it!
This may take a while. So here's a popular favourite- Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). Top tip: avoid the hordes on the PyG or Llanberis paths by ascending the narrow South Ridge. You can tick Yr Aran off at the same time that way too, and visit Gladstone Rock.
Drygarn Fawr, surrounded by blanket bog, in Mid Wales' Elenydd. How is this area not a national park? It really should be (but best to visit after a long dry spell!)
Ok, to England (controversial I know)! This is the Fairfield Horseshoe, taken from Heron Pike (I think). To get here you'll walk past Wordsworth's house in Rydal. No daffs here though.
What do Councillors do for fun? Climb Abergavenny's Sugarloaf in a hailstorm, obviously. Great times @OwenLLewJones @AshL93 @jenb_davies @wngstr
And here is mighty Lochnagar in the Cairngorms. Owned by the Queen as I recall. I was there in 2015 with @christianaidsco who were climbing 70 Munros during the year to mark the charity's 70th birthday.
From the same trip to Scotland, this is Coire Mhic Fhearchair on Beinn Eighe. There are 2 munros here, but we only managed one as the wind on the ridge was such thar we literally could not stand up at times.
I do like Pen y Fan, but the endless rows of parked cars at Storey Arms always depresses me - it is a much finer walk from the Pontsticill side, as seen here with Corn Du, Cribyn, and an equally fine Welsh Black cow!
Right, last one for tonight. This is on top of Craig Llysfaen. Granted, we're pushing the definition of 'hill' here, but I think it's justified since it overlooks the greatest city on Earth! Can't make out my house, but I can see the steelworks next to it! Nos da bawb.
