Update on Head Start. Today @DCPSChancellor and @dcpublicschools responded to the letter from parents, elected officials and education advocacy groups we sent last week. Unfortunately, it contains no new information or commitments to the District's most vulnerable children.
We had 4 asks: commit to maintain the high standards of Head Start for health and safety, release a timeline of the decision-making process, publicly begin a process to reenter the program, and apologize to students and communities harmed by the decision.
They did none of that.
They did none of that.
To say I'm deeply disappointed is an understatement. I'm heartened though by the amazing group of advocates who aren't going to give up until we get a better commitment from @dcpublicschools to our children.
