From the very start, the scientific community has been asking: what science? What data? Which scientists? Whose advice? The lack of transparency has been deeply deeply troubling. And this is not science. It’s politics.

What happens next, if & how the government is actually held to account for this - not just for the inclusion of Cummings but for its decision to cover it up, for its ongoing failure to provide transparency about how it is making decisions - is critical to who we are as a country
