As we confront this crisis, the @MISenate met today to vote to challenge the Governor's claim to have unilateral, unlimited powers and instead require the executive and legislative branches to work together to produce the best emergency policies for the people of MI.
We also set up a special oversight committee to review actions and provide input. One individual should not be making every decision and especially without accountability or necessary input. One-person decision-making has led to needless mistakes, including confusing orders,
banning of travel to residences, failure to apply promptly for important federal assistance, and a no-bid health care contract to political operatives that was later rescinded when made public.
The people of Michigan, in the overwhelming number of cases, are doing their part by practicing social distancing, wearing masks, and being safe, and they deserve collaboration and accountability among their elected officials.
We clearly need to be aggressive & we will be much more successful when everyone is working together. America's fundamental values of personal responsibility, freedom, self-government, & balance of powers and responsibilities in our government still applies in an emergency.
