The Ummah will never cease to be upon goodness as long as it doesn’t take knowledge from its Asaaghir (young in age).

Thread:
The messenger ﷺ said:

“Verily from the signs of the hour is that ilm (knowledge) will be taken the asaaghir (younger in age).”

(az-Zuhd of Ibn Mubarak 61)
Ibn Mubarak in the next Hadith brings an elaboration.

Ibn Mas’ood رضي الله عنه said:

“Verily, the people will not cease being upon good, as long as they take their Ilm (knowledge) from the older (scholars), and from the trustworthy ones and from their scholars....
....And if they take it from the younger ones and the evil ones from amongst them, then they are sure to be destroyed.“

(az-Zuhd of Ibn Mubarak 62)
The scholars in explaining these two Hadith, from them Ibn Qutaybah رحمه الله say:

The reasoning behind statements like these is that the elder scholars do not have the same characteristics that the young in age do, such as nastiness and foolishness.
He is not easily overtaken by his desires and the shaytan does not make him slip as easily.

Scholars such as Shaykh Fawzan, Rabee and Luhaydan حفظهم الله who are pushing their 90s, are not as easily swayed by the desires of this world. Of fame, women, money etc.
As for the young ones, then these desires are amplified and very much prevalent.

“And if those things enter upon him and he starts to give his opinion, then he will be destroyed and destroy others.”

(Naseehatu ahlil Hadith of al-Baghdadi 16)
And how often do we see this SubhanAllah. Kids opposing elder mashayikh and doing so proudly.

Opposing mashayikh who have been serving this deen since these kids grandparents were their age.

May Allah protect us from such calamities.

End.
