Little Fires Everywhere has really pushed and affirmed the way I think about education. #LittleFiresEverywhere

First, the show and book challenged what I deemed “right”. I judged Mia and her lifestyle. It isn’t right for Mia to not be in a stable school environment. How will that help her in the long run? Mia is a selfish parent In this regard. #LittleFiresEverywhere

But, nothing about Mia’s lifestyle or parenting choices had a real impact on Pearl’s ability to compete, even with the ritzy private school kids. She wrote the Yale essay. She took AP classes. She made friends. Pearl had problems, academics wasn’t one. #LittleFiresEverywhere

This goes to say that what we equate good education with staying put in A good school. Nah. Pearl was able to compete academically because she saw the world. She committed to journaling. She spent hours in libraries. #LittleFiresEverywhere
