Here is an incomplete history of sarcasm, Donald Trump-style:

On 4/29/13, Donald Trump quoted @mierz1824, who asked, "Have you ever respectfully disagreed with someone?"

"No!" Trump replied.

On 4/30/13, he wrote, to a Twitter user whose account has been suspended since, "sarcasm dummy!"

On 2/14/14, Donald Trump called @mckaycoppins, who then worked for @BuzzFeedNews, "a dishonest slob of a reporter, who doesn't understand my sarcasm when talking about him or his wife."

In the piece, @mckaycoppins describes a moment when Donald Trump spotted a photo on Coppins's iPhone, of the reporter's wife and daughter.

"Wow! Congratulations!" Trump told Coppins. "I was just looking down and saying, 'Wow, that’s a good-looking woman!'"

On 2/15/14, Donald Trump went after @mckaycoppins again, calling him "a failed and dishonest reporter who refuses to mention the sarcasm in my voice when referring to him or irrelevant buzzfeed."

On 3/6/14, without explanation, Donald Trump wrote, "Of course I don't think Jimmy Carter is dead-saw him today on T.V. Just being sarcastic, but never thought he was alive as President, stiff!"

On 7/27/16, Donald Trump said infamously, "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing."

On 7/28/16, @greta interviewed Trump.

"Obviously, I was being sarcastic, and a lot of people really smiled and laughed."

On 8/11/16, in Sunrise, Florida, Donald Trump said this:

"ISIS is honoring President Obama. He is the founder of ISIS. He founded ISIS. And, I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton."

On 8/12/16, @hughhewitt asked about that: "I know what you meant. You meant that he created the vacuum..."

"No, I meant he's the founder of ISIS. I do. He was the most valuable player. I give him the most valuable player award. I give her, too, by the way, Hillary Clinton."

On 8/12/16, CNN wrote about those comments — in the speech, and on @hughhewitt's show, to Donald Trump's consternation:

"Ratings challenged @CNN reports so seriously that I call President Obama (and Clinton) 'the founder' of ISIS, & MVP. THEY DON'T GET SARCASM?"

Later that day, at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump clarified his comments again:

"Obviously I'm being sarcastic. Then — but not that sarcastic, to be honest with you."

On 10/24/16, after Jessica Drake alleged Donald Trump had groped and kissed her, Trump said, "You know, this one that came out recently, 'He grabbed me, and he grabbed me on the arm.' Oh, I'm sure she's never been grabbed before."

On 8/21/19, President Trump commented on the trade war with China:

"This isn't my trade war, this is a trade war that should have taken place a long time ago. Somebody had to do it."

Before continuing, he paused and looked at the sky.

"I am the Chosen One," he said.

On 8/24/19, the president claimed he made the comment "jokingly."

"Little did I realize that the media would claim that I had a 'Messiah complex.' They knew I was kidding, being sarcastic..."
