Book festivals with audiences are vital, but many people tell me @CuirtFestival online is their first festival/something they couldn't physically attend. I'd be happy to pay to watch authors online - at events with audiences - at US/UK festivals I wouldn't otherwise get to go to.
There are the multiple issues of accessibility - people who can't attend for financial reasons, disability, confidence, geography, daily life (work, children, being a carer), the timing of events. In the future, festivals should consider some online events.
