A short time ago I participated in a conference call with DOE leadership on a proposed student grading policy. These are the current proposals that can be modified.
Here are some takeaways:

K - 8 students would receive a Satifactory or Needs Improvement grade.
The Needs Improvement will identify areas where students require additional supports. This combined with the pre-remote learning in school work would create a portfolio that will determine the student& #39;s need for additional supports.
This grading system streamlines the current Level 1,2,3,4 system but will remain consistent with the State Learning Standards.
High School
The proposal is that current High School Grading policies will continue during remote learning. Only difference failing grades will be recorded as incompletes. This will allow students to receive additional supports during the summer
Regents exams: as we know Regents exams have been cancelled and those students who are currently in a course that culminates with a Regents Exam the student will be awarded credit for the Regents Exam towards graduation if they pass the class.
If a student, including a current senior who is scheduled to graduate receives an incomplete in that Regents Class they will be required to attend the additional support. That support to pass the class will run through August.
The NYS Education Department & Board of Regents have cancelled the Regents exams through August.
Q - What does that mean?
A - If the student passes the class that requires the Regents Exam by August the passing grade will give the student credit towards graduation under the Regents Exam waiver due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Seniors who pass the class in August for an incomplete grade received in June will have it counted towards receiving their diploma.
I thank @NYCSchools for the outreach efforts regarding remote learning and grading policy discussion. I believe these efforts will support students, families & schools during this challenging time. Thank you to all our educators, students & families for all your work!
