Welcome back to #Fuck12Friday! Gonna dive right into it: The state exists to protect capital - not the people.
You've seen on your timelines the overwhelming deaths in poor, Black communities because of COVID-19. It's important to name that this isn't just because we're poor & Black. #Fuck12Friday
COVID-19 has laid bare the reality of institutionalized racism and the fatal inequity faced in Black communities. Due to divestment, our neighborhoods lack clinics, hospitals & emergency rooms, grocery stores w/ fresh produce, employment, sustainable housing, etc. #Fuck12Friday
Due to redlining, our communities are cut off from the privilege of basic necessities that wealthier white neighborhoods are allowed. And redlining obvi due to systemic racism and capitalist greed. #Fuck12Friday
Not only this but with Stay At Home orders, most of us are unable to work from home since a large number of essential workers are Black people. They go to work, contract the virus, and take it home because they have no other option. #Fuck12Friday
In an article from @rampantmag Frank Chapman remarks on the issue of the Stay at Home orders and the lack of uniformity that puts Black people from poor communities at high risk. https://bit.ly/3eR5SqQ  #Fuck12Friday
"A lot of Black ppl work in the service industry, in the postal service and public transportation [...]hospitals, grocery stores, fast-food chains, etc. And so they have to go to work." #Fuck12Friday
As the virus spreads and unemployment rises and our people die leaving families with one less breadwinner & pillar of support, and with rent and mortgages still being demanded of us, people will face eviction, homelessness, and incarceration. #Fuck12Friday
Even now police still continue to arrest and incarcerate us. They're locking people up in death traps for leaving their homes, years old warrants, being poor, and being Black. #Fuck12Friday
We are two going on three months into staying home, there are people who were precariously living paycheck to paycheck and are now suddenly, totally unable to support themselves or their families. #Fuck12Friday
Yet the city refuses to lift the ban on rent control and halt rent and mortgage payments. And as soon as the stay at home orders are lifted, they'll send the police into our neighborhoods to remove us from our homes. #Fuck12Friday
Black people are 13% of the general US population, yet we make up 50% of all COVID-19 deaths in the country. It is astounding how anyone can see that number and not question whether racism exists or not anymore. #Fuck12Friday
It is astounding that more people are not outraged over this major inequality. Astounding the lack of outrage over systemic racism and capitalism (those isms, y'all) practices has totally created death traps throughoput the country. #Fuck12Friday
It's heartbreaking to further realize that no matter the wins for civil rights, the popularity of #blacklivesmatter , the deeper conversations on race in the mainstream, that we are still not considered human enough to mourn and fight for in a pandemic. #Fuck12Friday
"We must be clear that the unequal outcomes we’re observing result from active choices and decisions made over and over again to the point where the fragility of our lives is taken for granted. This is reason for anger." #Fuck12Friday @Damon_AF
We will survive but not w/o a fight. And more people are joining that fight every single day. The government is not coming to save us. They're not. We have to accept that. ANd we have to accept that it is up to us to win our freedom. #Fuck12Friday
"This pandemic will inevitably embolden our liberatory fervor. We are not going to passively sit as spectators while we watch our people die. Even when we are stuck in place, we will move." @Damon_AF #Fuck12Friday
