Here's a thread about who we are and what Hack Club does. đŸ§”
Hack Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, founded in 2014 by 16 yr old @zachlatta to build the teenage technical community he wished he had. Today Hack Club is the largest community of high school hackers in the world. Everything is free to students.
We’re built on 2 beliefs:
1ïžâƒŁ We as a society drastically underestimate teenagers and coding is the closest thing we have today to a superpower.
2ïžâƒŁ In Hack Club there are no teachers, no parents, and everything is student-led, including our 400 after-school coding clubs, 122 hackathons, and Hack Club Bank (with most of the code written by teenagers). https://hackclub.com/map/
This year, Hack Club was the exclusive high school partner for @GitHubEducation. Every Hack Club and hackathon began with a starting grant from GitHub of up to $500 and prioritized access to the student development pack.
Today, there are 10k students in Hack Club every year. Our students are amazing: @megscui, who started the first Hack Club in Ohio, growing it into a midwestern network from Cincinnati to Cleveland to Chicago. She raised $30k to run the largest high school hackathon in Chicago
. @engineer_abel started the first Hack Club in Oakland, CA because neither his school nor any in his area taught computer science. He wanted to teach himself and his friends to code, and Hack Club became the most active club in his school. He’s now @chanzuckerberg institute.
We want Hack Club to be the best place for a teenager into technology on the internet. A model Hack Clubber is kind, gregarious, technical, curious, thoughtful. Someone who thinks big and executes big. Everyone is welcome at Hack Club! 💖
Our team has worked hard to put together an amazing stream this afternoon, and we're excited to have you join us! 💖 https://twitter.com/hackclub/status/1253754794696720385?s=21 https://twitter.com/hackclub/status/1253754794696720385
