People's awareness and consequent outrage regarding Marichjhapi is pretty recent. The CPI(M) was able to control information flows very well back then, before the days of TV and online. You'll never know how many people died in Marichjhapi and everything you hear is either

grossly exaggerated or ridiculously underplayed.
