So many ppl still think "influencer" = lifestyle influencer. Like those aspirational ppl on insta who post sponcon. These ppl have not only been losing relevance for years, it's also such a small sliver of the influencing industry.
I thought this piece by @SorayaRoberts was a very good and thoughtful critique of lifestyle influencers and the challenges they’re facing rn and how the culture around them will change https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/epgypz/coronavirus-could-finally-pop-the-influencer-bubble
Healthcare influencers are booming rn. Doctors and nurses and others peddling health remedies are only racking up more followers and becoming more prominent. This was a great piece @rebexxxxa wrote on the rise of Nursefluencers last year https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2019/5/10/18535853/doctor-instagram-nurse-doctor-mike-influencer
And yes, so many cooking influencers are growing like crazy rn. Look at how Eitan has exploded over the past few months. People are watching more cooking YouTubers than ever https://www.insider.com/eitan-bernath-chef-food-influencer-tiktok-cooking-videos-2020-4 https://twitter.com/greggoodfried/status/1253741447322275840?s=21 https://twitter.com/greggoodfried/status/1253741447322275840
People are also seeking out content and buying crafting kids from craftfluencers etc. "There’s quilting creators, there’s woodworking creators, there’s anything you can think of. Any hobby, any idea, there is an influencer or someone making content." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/23/style/creator-coach-influencers-coronavirus.html
Anyway that doesn't mean huge swaths of the influencer industry won't be hurt by a tightening in ad budgets. But as Collin Colburn, a senior analyst at Forrester said: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/23/style/creator-coach-influencers-coronavirus.html
I do think many hyper-produced, hyper-aspirational, lifestyle type influencers will be knocked out. The shift away from those type of ppl has been happening for a while. But Coronavirus is not the "end of influencers" or "end of YouTubers" even remotely https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/04/influencers-are-abandoning-instagram-look/587803/
