Advice to the #classof2024 especially if you didn’t get into your dream college. UCs are currently discussing moving Fall quarter online. (UCLA, UCB, UCI, etc.) PLEASE consider taking your 1st year at a community college online and THEN transferring. Here’s why:
Many California community colleges offer IDENTICAL courses as UCs and CSUs for a fraction of the cost. Some even offer a promise to new students where tuition is FREE. My community college in NorCal for example, is tuition free for 2 years (no income max) https://www.deanza.edu/promise/
If you didn’t get into your dream campus, you can go to community college and knock out your GEs and then transfer. The benefits are:
• Your high school GPA is no longer considered, so you practically get a blank slate
• You do not need to take the SAT or submit your scores
#classof2024 take it from me, use this opportunity to save money and go to a community college first. Your classes will most likely be online regardless, so use this to your advantage to get into your dream school. Get that 4.0 and transfer rather than compromising. It’s worth it
I didn’t expect this thread to get this much attention so I’m just gonna drop a helpful link about UC-TAG, so as long as you maintain a 3.4 GPA at JC you can be guaranteed admission to UCI, UCD, UCSB and others. I didn’t do this but I know others who have.
