After Brexit & Trump won, a narrative was constructed on the centre-left that the prob with our politics was due to a decline of trust in experts of various kinds. In 2020 we can discern a new narrative being created, that the real prob is having too TOO much faith in experts.
This centrist narrative reached its apotheosis last year with the political betamax of ‘The Independent Group’
As a political party they were basically this New Yorker cartoon brought to life
A cartoon with a message that was beautifully dissected in this tweet
They were lots of this type of stuff after 2016
So Im glad that there has been a dawning realisation that this technocratic conception of politics was somewhat limited, its just a shame that it took C-19 to get us to this point. In other words, we need less of this......
And more of this...........
And more of insights like this.........
And also this........
This technocratic conception of politics is very limited & thats been exposed mercilessly by the C-19 crisis. Simply and slavishly following ‘expert advise’ isn't sufficient when faced with complex problems where ‘experts’ disagree amongst each other & frequently get things wrong
Its the height of irony that many voters went to the polls in December 2019 and voted for they thought was a version of the Brexit party but ending getting a version of ‘The Independent Group’ instead.
