From a different world: I am a coder. I started my own software company because I was sick of sales guys not listening to me when I told them about the realities of my part of the business. As far as they understood, I did some kind of magic, so that meant I could do whatever...
And I wanted to show that I could do what they did - make sales, do deals, talk money.

And I did. And I could.

But what I learned was that even though I can do sales, and I can write features, and I can fix bugs, if what you are doing all day is fixing bugs...
It's really hard - psychologically almost impossible - to be chipper and positive in a sales meeting. When your mental load is only full of what is wrong, how can you sell what is right? When your mind is on what you are working on to make software better...
